Moving Coastal (2021 - Present)

After moving to Charleston, I began photographing the South Carolina coast and Lowcountry, looking for ways to capture the light and movement of marsh grasses, surf, sand, birds, water and sky. And, I recently spent a week on Cumberland Island, off the south Georgia coast, where I found even more subjects, like wild horses, resurrection ferns, and dirt roads with moss-laden trees. Returning to evocative landscapes is a return to my early roots as a photographer of Vermont trees, but now I am experimenting with that fine line between information and abstraction, seeing just how far I can go before the subject fades away.

I print these photos in my studio as 16 x 20 images on cold press paper, which has a tooth, like watercolor paper, and the results often feel like pastel drawings to me. They are also available in much larger sizes, up to 40 inches on the short side. Stay tuned - I am sure more are on their way.
